The Corona Virus: Update and Decisions of the Session and Deacons of Grace PCA
On a special meeting of the Session and the Deacons on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 the following decision were made and we gladly share it with you:
We acknowledge the sovereignty of God in the devastation the Corona virus has spread worldwide. We acknowledge that God is our only refuge and plead for His mercy. We
ask the congregation to be in prayer without ceasing for this virus to cease.
Bible Studies and ReSet
All Bible Studies, prayer meetings, and ReSet are canceled indefinitely.
After much deliberation and prayerfully considering what is going on with the COVID-19, and complying with the lates CDC recommendations, the Session has decided to cancel this Sunday’s service. Stay tuned for updates.
In Christ’s Service.
Tithes and Offerings
That we ask the church to continue to be faithful in their tithes and offerings. The staff still need to receive their salaries, while insurance, utilities and other operational payments need to stay current. We ask that the congregation if needed mail in their contributions or drop off at church.
Deacons will stay updated on Mercy ministry. They will assist in two ways. 1) They will help anyone who is in need of monitory assistance. Please contact one of the deacons if you desire any help. 2) Specifically for our elderly: The deacons will arrange that people in the congregation (several volunteered already) will go and shop for you to mitigate risk of being exposed to virus. if requested, food/items can be dropped off without face to face contact. The deacons will send out more information soon.
The Session’s Approach and Request
Session will meet via conference call on a weekly basis during crisis to continually stay abreast of virus situation, and discuss plans for the next weeks service. Our plans will be guided by the CDC and the assistance of two medical Doctors in our church, brothers Paul Robertie and Perin Alfred. Our decisions will also be reviewed the moment there is any evidence of the outbreak in Marion County.
Going forward we will consider asking our health care team to help us with collecting data on the current questions being asked, have you recently been on a cruise? Recently returned from Europe? Been in contact with anyone who is known to have had covid-19 virus, Etc. We are still working on this.
We are trusting God to give us the wisdom that we need to make the right decisions, for His Glory. We acknowledge that we must be in prayer for this situation and ask the congregation to please be in prayer with and for us.
Theo will contact Pastor Kim to see what his plans are going forward, Glenn will need to focus on cleaning of Fellowship hall.
Please remember the following preventative measures:
• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. An easy way to mark the time is to hum the “Happy Birthday” song from beginning to end twice while scrubbing.
• Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
• Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
• Stay home when you are sick or becoming sick.
• Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue (not your hands) and throw the tissue in the trash.
• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
• Getting a flu shot is recommended.
